The Yahoo message board was the most valuable resource to me during the application and pre-departure process. Prospective volunteers, returned and current volunteers, family and friends share all sorts of useful information there.

A great introduction to the Peace Corps. The book "So You Want to Join The Peace Corps: What to Know Before You Go" by Dillon Banerjee was really helpful in understanding the whole process.

 
 
 
Darien Book Aid is an organization in Darien, Connecticut that accepts donations of books and ships them all over the world to libaries, schools, prisons, hospitals and Peace Corps Volunteers.  They are incredibly helpful to the PCVs.  Many of us in Uzbekistan have received boxes of books from them for our schools and English Clubs. 
 
They accept book donations but have more of a need for volunteers.  And since they are in the neighborhood, I thought some of you in Connecticut might be able to help.  You can call there at 203-655-2777 and you can link to their website here:
